1. How does the NCCC define an international student?
Any student who is not a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States is considered an international student. International students usually need an F1 or J1 visa to study in the United States.
2. Can the application fee be deferred for international students?
The application fee is a one-time fee that is required for all international students and cannot be deferred.
3. Can I study part time?
No, international students cannot study part time. U.S. immigration law requires that all international students on F1 student visas maintain full-time enrollment. To be considered full time, undergraduate students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
4. Are international students required to take the SAT or ACT?
No, international students are not required to take the SAT or ACT, but it is recommended, if available.
5. Is the TOEFL required for students who have earned a U.S. bachelor's degree or higher?
No, NCCC does not require the TOEFL for students who have earned a U.S. bachelor's degree or higher, but the NCCC Nursing department does require the TOEFL from all non-native speakers of English.
6. How long is a TOEFL/IELTS score valid?
The TOEFL/IELTS score is valid for three years.

8. Can international students apply for a second undergraduate degree?
Yes, international students can apply for a second undergraduate degree, but it must be in a different program of study.
9. I have submitted my application to the NCCC. What happens next?
Once we receive and process your application, you will receive an email to thank you for your application and provide you with the next step to complete the admissions process. We will also send you an Identification Number and a password for access to your myNeosho and P-Mail account. If admitted, a Notice of Admission and a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 Form) will be mailed to you.
10. Are international students required to pay an advance tuition deposit?
No, international students are not required to pay an advance tuition deposit, however, international students need to arrive on campus prepared to pay for their semester charges in full or to complete a payment plan application.
11. Can international students apply for financial aid and scholarships?
International students are not eligible for federal and state funded financial aid options at NCCC, therefore all international students are required to show proof of funding for a minimum of one year with the expectation that students will continue to have access to that funding throughout their education. NCCC does offer three types of scholarships to international students. These are Athletic scholarships, Foundation scholarships, and Activity Scholarships in Art, Music, or Theatre.
12. Can international students work on campus?
Yes, according to U.S. law, on-campus employment is the only legal employment for international students. Employment at NCCC is not a guarantee. Jobs do occasionally become available in the Cafeteria, NCCC Bookstore, or as a student tutor.
13. What should I do to get a student visa?
Most international students attending NCCC hold student (F1) visas. After you are admitted to NCCC you will receive a Notification of Admission and a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 Form). In order to obtain a student visa, present the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 Form) to a United States embassy or consulate. The U.S. Department of State offers more information about obtaining a student visa. If you are already attending a college or university in the United States, you must obtain a new Form I-20 from Neosho County Community College. Be sure to complete the International Student Transfer Form from the Office of International Student Services. Your SEVIS record must be released from your former school to Neosho County Community College. If you have specific questions about student visas, you can contact the SEVIS coordinator at the Office of International Affairs.
14. Do I need to submit an immunization record?
Some students must submit an immunization record. Neosho County Community College requires all students applying to live in campus housing to provide an immunization record. All international students attending either campus must provide proof of TB (Tuberculosis) testing.
15. Do I need health insurance?

16. Do I have to attend International Student Orientation?
Yes, International Student Orientation helps students with their transition to the NCCC, and all newly admitted international students are required to attend at the beginning of each academic term.
