The Associate of Arts with an emphasis in English is designed for students who intend to transfer to a four year institution to complete an English degree.
Prerequisites The student will need to demonstrate proficiencies in reading, English, and mathematics based on the ACCUPLACER assessment test, ACT or SAT scores, or by taking the recommended/ required classes. Some of the courses in this curriculum have specific prerequisites.
General Education (GE) Courses In order to graduate with a college degree, all students are required to take certain general education courses. These include English composition, speech, wellness, science, art and humanities, mathematics, computer systems, and social and behavioral science.

Program Outcomes 1. Demonstrate the ability to compose well-crafted essays on a variety of topics for a variety of audiences. 2. Demonstrate the ability to incorporate research effectively into one’s own writing. 3. Analyze the use of literary conventions in a variety of genres, including fiction, poetry, and drama. 4. Demonstrate the ability to compose a written analysis of a literary work within the context of its historical and cultural background. 5. Demonstrate an understanding of the literary heritage of the English language, including its British and American authors.
