Purpose of the Project

Neosho County Community College is honored to partner with the Mih family to recognize the years of service, dedication, and commitment to NCCC by their parents, Dr. Alexander W.S. and Mariam Mih. This project aims to provide a state-of-the-art theater and meeting space that will benefit the students of NCCC, and the businesses and residents of Neosho County and the Southeast Kansas region.

Since opening in 1968, the NCCC theatre has served as a gathering space for local, regional, state, and federal organizations. This project seeks to greatly renew NCCC’s integral role in improving cultural and quality of life experiences for the region. The renovated theatre will improve the overall experience for the performers, speakers, and audience, and the addition of a reception center, gallery, and amphitheater will provide participants an area for socializing, networking, and the exploration of the arts.

— Dr. Brian Inbody, Ed.D, NCCC President and Yvonne Hull, NCCC Foundation Director of Development

Statement from the Mih Family

Since 1936, Neosho County Community College has played a prominent and vital role in the life of the city of Chanute, Neosho County, and the surrounding communities as a vital resource and gethering place for higher education, career and technical training, the fine arts, and cultural enrichment.

This role has been especially prominent in our family, who have a long history of involvement with NCCC. Our mother, Mariam Mih, enjoyed a successful career at NCCC as an educator for over 30 years, later serving as a member of the NCCC Board of Trustees for 16 years. Our father, Dr. Alexander W.S. Mih, supported and encouraged all our academic pursuits, especially in the fine arts. We are both graduates of NCCC and were involved in the fine arts programs while in school.

We believe these opportunities provide great benefits to students and to the community. A renovated and expanded fine arts center will offer even greater opportunities for student engagement and community enrichment on the Chanute Campus for many years to come.

It is a great privilege to support this wonderful project, and it is a blessing to honor the memory of our parents through this partnership with NCCC.

— Cathy Mih-Taylor, M.D. and Alexander D. Mih, M.D.
