The Medical Coding Certificate program of study prepares individuals to perform specialized data entry, classification, and recordkeeping procedures related to medical diagnostic, treatment, billing, and insurance documentation. It includes instruction in medical records and insurance software applications, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, fundamentals of medical science and treatment procedures, data classification and coding, data entry skills, and regulations relating to Medicare and insurance documentation.

Completion of this Medical Coding Certificate program will prepare students to sit for the Certified Physician Coding Certification Exam (CPC) offered through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and Certified Coding Associate Exam (CCA) offered through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Students completing the Medical Coding certificate are encouraged to consider continuing their education to complete the Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology.
