The cafeteria’s all-you-can-eat menu offers an excellent variety of choices for nineteen (19) meals per week. [ Back to Top ] SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES Qualified individuals who have a disability and need accommodations because of their disability to participate in academic and student life should take the following steps: Request a copy of their Individualized Education Program (IEP) or other disability documentation to be sent to the chief student affairs officer. 1. After reviewing the documentation, the chief student affairs officer will contact the student to schedule a meeting. 2. During the meeting, the chief student affairs officer and the student will discuss accommodations needed to create an accommodation plan. 3. When the accommodation plan has been developed, the chief student affairs officer will notify the student’s instructors of accommodations needed. 4. The student will be given a copy of the accommodation plan, the chief student affairs officer will retain a file copy, and will coordinate services. [ Back to Top ] HOUSING Unmarried students under twenty-one (21) years of age who are enrolled full-time and not living with parent(s) are required to live in the college housing when space is available. When space is limited, college housing will be filled as follows: First, with international students; Second, with scholarship students; Third, with freshmen students; Fourth, with sophomore students. [ Back to Top ] Students with special circumstances who wish exemption from the housing requirement may apply in writing to the chief student affairs officer. This application must specify the basis for exemption. Generally, exemptions are limited to physical disability, medical, emotional problems, or cultural factors relating to international students. The chief student affairs officer or designee will respond in writing within five (5) business days. If the request is denied, the request may be appealed to the president who will respond within five (5) business days. The decision of the president will be final. The housing requirement will not apply to exchange students required to reside with a host family by the exchange program. Visit the Residence Life web page. [ Back to Top ] INTERNET ACCESS NCCC provides on-campus access to the internet and the world wide web to all students, faculty, and staff on both campuses. Chanute campus locations include Chapman Library, the CAVE, and various computer labs. Ottawa campus locations include the library and computer labs. [ Back to Top ] STARS (Student Support Services) Students Thriving Achieving and Recognizing Success (STARS) is a federally funded student support services program. The goal of the program is to help students become successful in college and life. Participants in STARS are selected according to federal guidelines set by the Student Support Services grant. Once participants are selected, they can take advantage of the services offered by STARS. Services include workshops on time management, goal setting, test-taking skills, and other areas including tutoring, counseling, advising, and other individual needs. Counseling services will provide stress management skills, financial aid, personal, academic, and career advising. Cultural and enrichment activities for participants, such as a trip to a baseball game, attending the William Inge Festival in Independence, KS, or visiting the Nelson Art Gallery, will also be available. Visit the STARS web page. [ Back to Top ] STUDENT CENTER The Student Center is the focal point for social activity during the day. It houses the game room, cafeteria, bookstore, and lounge area. It provides areas for studying, internet access, snacks, breaks, and meetings. The lounge area offers free recreational activities such as pool and a large screen TV. Full ranges of vending options are available. A lounge and vending facilities are located at the Ottawa campus. [ Back to Top ] STUDENT HEALTH The College does not provide on-campus medical services, nor does it assume responsibility for injuries incurred by students while participating in college activities. Medical services are available at local clinics and hospitals. The College reserves the right to require a medical examination of any student at any time. When a medical examination is required for admission or continuation in a program or activity, a satisfactory medical examination report from a licensed physician must be filed with the chief student affairs officer. The chief student affairs officer will review the medical record and may deny permission for a student to participate in a program, course, or activity. Student athletes must provide evidence of current primary medical insurance in order to participate in a varsity sport. The College does not provide general health and accident insurance for students. Students must contract for this type of coverage on an individual basis. [ Back to Top ] |
