Chapman Library - Frequently Asked Questions Page
What is the loan period for books? For magazines? Books loan
for 3 weeks. Magazines loan for 1 week, with a $1.00/day overdue fee.
How can materials be renewed? If you cannot come to the Library to
renew materials, you can call the Library at 431-2820, ext. 296, or you can
e-mail the Library.
Why do I have to have my library card when checking out materials?
Verifying the identity of everyone who checks out materials protects our
students from mistaken charges if the materials aren't returned on time.
We try to make it easy for you to have your library card at all times, by
putting your barcode on your student ID.
How can I find materials I need if the Library is not open? You can go
online to the
Chapman Library online catalog and look for materials from anywhere that
you can access the Internet. If you have a Library card number (barcode),
you can reserve new materials online.
These materials will be ready for you to pick up the next day the Library is
open. Reserved materials will be held for pick-up for 48 hours.
What about using the Library's information databases when the Library isn't
open?
All the Library's information databases can be accessed when you are not on
campus if you have Internet access, but you will need a username and password. Just go to the NCCC web page,
find Chapman Library under "Quick Links" on the left side of the page, and
then go to the "Online Databases" link. Ask your instructors or library library personnel for the passwords.
Can videos or DVDs be checked out? The Library's collection of DVDs
and videos can be checked out only for use within the Library. Ask Library
personnel for help in locating the areas of the Library where videos can be
viewed.
What if I can't find the books or materials I need in Chapman Library?
The Library staff can find any material you need through the interlibrary
loan system of Kansas. The loan period for theses materials is 3 weeks,
and they cannot be renewed. There is a $1.00/day overdue fee for these
materials. To find out more about interlibrary loan, or to order
materials, go to the Interlibrary Loan web page.
I'm confused about the difference between the Kansas Library Catalog and the
Kansas Library Card. What's the difference? Yes, these two
similar names can be confusing! Actually the "Kansas Library Catalog" is
just that -- it's a catalog of all the books and other media that you can get
from throughout Kansas through our interlibrary loan program.
The "Kansas Library Card" is
electronic information resources that you can access directly on your computer
-- electronic books, online information databases, and audio books and music
that you can download. But you must set up an account in order to do this.
Ask Library personnel about how to do this -- or e-mail us for instructions.
