"Shooting" Oil Wells, late 1800's.

"Shooting" oil wells consisted of dynamiting a chamber in the sand
at the right oil-producing depth. The oil flowed into the cavity to be pumped out of the well.
Some drillers used nitroglycerine. Oil drilling took place from the late 1800's to the early 1980's.
