In 1913, the city voted $45,000 in bonds to build Chanute High School on the east side of the tracks. Two more bonds in 1927 and 1937 added the trade school and the junior college. In 1986 a $4,900,000 bond revitalized the high school and added a new gym at a cost of about $6,400,000.
