CNA FAQ

Q: Do I need to have a high school diploma or GED in order to enroll in the CNA course?
A: No, you don’t have to have a high school diploma or a GED in order to enroll in the CNA class. This is a vocation class that prepares students for an entry level job opportunity in the healthcare field and therefore there are no pre-requisites for the course.

Q: I am still in high school. Can I still take the CNA class?
A: You can take the CNA class while you are in high school as long as you are at least 16 years old and classified as at least either a junior or senior by your high school principal. Your principal will have to complete a permission to enroll form to that effect. Call the Outreach office to get a permission to enroll form, this form should be returned along with an enrollment form and payment in full for the class.

Q: If I enroll in the CNA class will I be able to apply for financial aid?
A: If you are a non-degree seeking student only enrolled in the CNA class you are not eligible for federal financial aid. If you are a degree seeking student and are enrolled in at least one other one credit hour class that is required for your degree you are able to apply for federal financial aid. If you are not eligible for federal financial aid but are interested in financial assistance, there are still a few options to consider. Often times local department of commerce, job service, SRS, or workforce development offices may be able to offer financial assistance. Contact your local office for more information.
