Tosca Harris
She received a BFA in Theatre from Southwest Texas State University and
a MA in Communication from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah,
OK. She also has additional hours in Communication and Administration
from the University of Oklahoma and from Pittsburg State. She lives with
her husband Cliff and children Cliff 12, Ali 11, and Cristofer 4, in
rural Chanute.
Forensics/Debate coach, Tosca Harris started the Forensics/Debate
program here at NCCC in 2000, having moved to Chanute from Reno, Nevada,
where she worked in administration. She has been teaching in community
colleges for fourteen years, having started her career at Allen County
Community College teaching journalism.
This is the second successful Forensics/Debate program she has started.
In the mid-nineties she started a Forensics/Debate program at Connors
State. Today her students at NCCC compete with the students at Connors,
where the program still flourishes.
Tosca loves to travel with students and encourage them to achieve their
personal best. Some of her honors as a teacher include:Who’s Who Among
College Professors; National Executive Committee for the National
Educational Debate Association; NISSOD Teaching Excellence Award;
University of Kansas Community College Teacher Recognition Award.
