Steps to Progress as a Nursing Student
|
Step 1: I have decided to pursue a collegiate career in
nursing.
Complete a course in: C.N.A., Medical
Assistant, or LMHT. C.N.A is offered at NCCC through the Allied
Health Care Department:
Allied Health Care,
contact Tracy Rhine, email address:
trhine@neosho.edu,
phone: 620-431-2820 x 262
|
|
Step 2: I completed a course in one of the following: C.N.A., Medical Assistant, L.M.H.T. I want to earn an LPN. Additionally, I may
continue my studies to earn an RN.
Recommendation: Complete all "Prerequisite" General
Education and the General Education courses listed in the
nursing program curriculum prior to admission. This
approach will allow you to have enough points to be accepted
into the program and will allow you to concentrate only on
nursing classes once in the program. Online labs are
strongly discouraged.
You may apply even if the "Prerequisite" General
Education
courses are in progress
as long as they are complete prior to admission into the
Pre-Nursing Courses:
BIOL
257/258 Human Anatomy and Physiology with lab (3 credit hours
class, 2 credit hours lab)
PSYC
155 General Psychology (3 credit hours)

Advanced Standing
 |
Applications are accepted from students who have enrolled previously in
other nursing education programs.
|
 |
Any person seeking admission to the nursing program with advanced
standing should contact the nursing program at least four months prior
to the planned date of enrollment.
|
 |
Admission requirements for transfer students are the same as for all
applicants to the nursing program. All credentials presented in support
of an applicant's request to receive advanced standing will be
individually evaluated.
|
 |
A letter of recommendation from the director of the former nursing
program is required.
|
 |
The application of the student desiring transfer credit is reviewed by
the NCCC Nursing Administration.
|
 |
The nursing courses challenged for
transfer credit must be similar to NCCC's
required courses, including course objectives, description, content of
theory and practice, and theory and clinical hours.
|

for the tests. |
Criminal Background Check
As required by some clinical facilities contracted by the nursing
program, all students accepted into the nursing program must submit to a
criminal background check. Failure to submit to a criminal background
check will disqualify the applicant from admission into the nursing
program.
The incurred cost of the background check will be the student’s
responsibility and will be assessed at the time of acceptance.
Any student with a criminal history who denies that history by answering
“no” to the question regarding criminal background on the program
application is fraudulently presenting her/himself as not having a
criminal background and will be automatically and permanently
disqualified from admission to the nursing program. This paragraph is
not applicable to convictions for criminal offenses that have been
expunged.
