Race and Ethnicity

This course will provide students with the basic knowledge of concepts, theories, and empirical research in the field of Race and Ethnic Relations. Principles of prejudice, discrimination, and racial/ethnic stratification will be illustrated by comparing experiences of white and non-white racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Although our focus will be on U.S. racial/ethnic groups, there will be room for discussion on similar social phenomena in other countries of the world. In addition, we will examine how gender and socio-economic status interact with racial/ethnic status producing different life experiences for individuals.

Prerequisites and Corequisites: Introduction to Sociology or permission of the Instructor
