Science and Mathematics Club

This organization is for students who have an interest and/or curiosity in the various fields of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. All students are eligible for membership and are encouraged to join and become involved in the club. The club offers opportunities for participation in professional activities featuring guest speakers, technical demonstrations, journal article reviews, science fair participation, and field trips. Several social activities and fundraisers are planned for each year the club is organized. This organization is interested in promoting the college and personal growth through science and math activities.

SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS CLUB CONSTITUTION

Article I – Organization

Section 1 Name

The name of this organization is Science and Mathematics Club.

Section 2 Purpose

To promote interest in the fields of science and math and to provide an opportunity for those with a science or math interest to meet together.

Section 3 Membership

All students with an interest in biology, chemistry, physics, math or a related field are eligible for membership.

Section 4 Faculty Advisor

The club must have at least two faculty advisors. There must be at least one faculty advisor present for an official meeting of Science Club. The faculty advisors should be from the science and math departments.

Section 5 Meetings

The time and place of the meetings for the year will be decided at the first meeting of the year. Special meetings may be called by the executive committee and faculty advisor. A simple majority of members must be present for business to be discussed at a regular meeting.

Section 6 Membership deletions

Any member who misses three consecutive meetings or activities of the club shall have their membership eligibility reviewed by the executive committee, which shall take appropriate action.

Article II – Officers

Section 1 President

To be elected from the outgoing Freshman class during the spring of the year before he or she is to take office. The president will preside over the meetings and serve as chairman of the executive committee.

Section 2 Vice-President

To be elected at the first meeting in the fall. He or she will serve on the executive committee. In case the president is absent from any meeting he or she will preside at that meeting. It is the duty of the president to notify the vice-president if he or she is to be absent.

Section 3 Secretary –Treasurer

To be elected at the first meeting in the fall. He or she will serve on the executive committee, keep a record of attendance, keep an account of monies belonging to Science Club, pay bills incurred by Science Club, and keep a record of the meetings. All records will be kept in duplicate, one by the secretary-treasurer and one by the faculty advisor.

Section 4 Student Senate Representative & Alternate

To be elected at the first meeting in the fall. The Student Senate Representative must be able to attend the Student Senate meetings for the best interest of the club. The representative must see that the alternate attends any Student Senate meeting that he/she cannot attend.

Section 5 Conflict of Interests

The Science Club Student Senate Representative shall not be allowed to serve as student representative to the Student Senate for any other club or organization. The president of Science Club shall not be allowed to serve as president of Student Senate.

Section 6 Vacancies

There will be a special meeting called, if necessary, to fill any vacancy. The vice-president shall take over the president’s office if the president should resign. The other offices will be filled from the membership by regular voting procedures.
