Coaching Career: Steve Murry assumed the
Head Coaching job for Neosho County in June of 1986. He succeeded Carl
Robb and became only the second coach ever for Neosho Baseball. During
his twenty year stint, the Panthers have won 588 games, Jayhawk
Conference Championships in 1994, 2003 & 2006 and a Jayhawk Conference Eastern
Division Sub-Regional Championship in 1999 and 2006, and set a school record with
44 wins in 2006. The Panthers have also been Region VI Champions in 2003
and qualified for the World Series and have been the Regional Runner-up
in 1999 & 2001 and third in 2006 also. |
As a player, Murry had many accomplishments that included:
* Three time Academic All-American
* Two time All-American
* Three time All-Region or District
* Three time All-Conference
* Led the Nation in HR’s and RBI’s
* Third in the nation in Avg. (.496)
After his playing days, Murry spent three years as an assistant at Ft.
Hays with three nationally ranked teams before he reconstructed "Panther
Baseball". As a coach at Neosho, he has added many accomplishments:
* Over 230 players placed at a 4 year on scholarship
* 115 of the above at the Division one level
* 31 Panthers offered pro contracts
* Twenty One Academic All-Americans
* Six All-Americans
* Jayhawk Conference titles in 1994, 2003 & 2006
* 11 Jayhawk Conference runner-ups
* A Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division Sub-Regional title in 1999 &
2006
* Regional Runner-up Finishes in 1999 and 2001
* His teams have rewrote the record book at NCCC
* Built beautiful Hudson Field on campus
* A near 100% graduation rate from his players
* Selected as "Instructor of the Year" at Neosho County Community
College in 1999-2000 school year.
* Named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 & 2005
* Region VI Champions in 2003
* World Series Qualifier in 2003
* Central District "Coach of the Year" in 2003
* Won his 500th game on Apr. 13, 2004 vs. KCK
Besides his coaching duties, Murry also serves as Assistant Athletic
Director and as a Physical Education instructor. Murry and his lovely
wife Kim of over 25 years are the proud parents of Zack (21) who plays
in the Colorado Rockies organization and Mallori (18) who is a freshman
volleyball player at Neosho County Community College.
