A. To receive a Student Stafford Loan a student must complete a FAFSA and all corresponding paperwork. A. Generally you will want to submit an application to the Veteran's Administration (VA). The VA determines your eligibility for these benefits. For more information or to submit an online application visit the educational benefits section of www.gibill.va.gov. You may also call VA regarding the education benefits (GI Bill) at 1.888.442.4551. Paper copies of forms are available from NCCC. You may need to provide NCCC with a copy of your application or request for change of program place of training. A DD214 copy may also be required. A. If you are being asked to pay to do a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), then you may be on the wrong website. The official site is www.fafsa.ed.gov and the FAFSA application can be completed free of charge. Some websites ending in .com try to charge you money to complete this free application.
Q: What If I have problems filling out the FAFSA?
A. Free help is available. Online help is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, by selecting a “Help” or “Live Help” button while completing the FAFSA online. Help is available by phone between 8 am and midnight Eastern time at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Q: What is my EFC?
A. EFC stands for 'Expected Family Contribution'. The Department of Education uses income, household, and asset information from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to calculate each student’s EFC. The student’s EFC determines eligibility for federal need-based aid, such as Pell Grant, Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Work-Study, and Subsidized Stafford Loans.
Q: What is verification?
A. Verification is review process. FAFSA applications may be selected randomly or due to inconsistent data. Once selected additional paperwork must be collected by the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) . The OSFA will notify the student if verification paperwork is needed. This paperwork includes signed copies of tax returns and a verification worksheet. The OSFA will compare the submitted verification documents to the FAFSA information. If there are any discrepancies the OSFA may request further clarification. If corrections are needed the OSFA will make them on the students behalf. No federal financial aid will be awarded until the verification process is complete. [ Back to Top ]Q: How do I transfer financial aid to/from another school?
A. First, you need to send the school your FAFSA. If you have a PIN number you can go online to www.fafsa.ed.gov. There you will want to add/delete a school code as a correction to your FAFSA. The Department of Education will then send your FAFSA to the school(s) listed. Neosho’s federal school code is 001936. If you completed a paper FAFSA and do not have a PIN number, we will need the DRN number, from the first page of your Student Aid Report (SAR) (processed version of the FAFSA) in order to begin processing your Financial Aid. The SAR was mailed to you from the Department of Education (DOE). If you cannot locate your SAR, you can call the DOE at 1-800-4-FED-AID, and request to have a duplicate copy mailed to you. If we have your identifying information and your DRN number, then we can add Neosho’s school code to your FAFSA. Once your FAFSA is received by Neosho we will process it and contact you to let you know it has been received and if any further documents are needed.
Q: When do I have to pay back my loans?
A. Repayment typically begins 6 months after the student leaves school or their enrollment drops below a half-time student status (enrolled in less than 6 credit hours).
Q: What if I have forgotten my user id and password for Loan Entrance/Exit Counseling? A. For your security, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) has no record of your user id or password for these programs. In the log on box for these programs there are links for “Forgot User ID?” and “Forgot Password?” You may be able to retrieve your information this way. A. Financial aid warning occurs when a student is not making satisfactory academic progress (SAP). Financial aid warning is different from academic probation although it may occur at the same time. This would be a student who is not maintaining a 2.0 cumulative gpa and/or has not been successful in at least 67% of the total classes they have taken. A student on financial aid warning is still eligible for federal student aid (this includes federal grants, work study, loans). A. Financial aid denial occurs when a student is not making satisfactory academic progress (SAP). Financial aid denial is different from academic suspension although it may occur at the same time. This may be a student who received unsuccessful grades in all of their classes in one semester at NCCC, student who has attempted 97 or more credit hours, and/or a student who was on financial aid warning and did not meet warning requirements. A student on financial aid denial is not eligible for federal student aid (this includes federal grants, work study, and loans).
